1992 NCAA Tournament

Hey there basketball friends! Today’s post we will be covering the highlights from the 1992 basketball season.

The East regional was held in Philadelphia Pennsylvania with the top 4 seeds being represented by the defending champion Duke Blue Devils, Kentucky Wildcats, Massachusetts Minutemen, and Seton Hall Pirates.

The Blue Devils and the Seton Hall Pirates took each other on in the first sweet 16 game with the Blue Devils cruising to an 81-69 win behind strong performances by Grant Hill and Christian Laettner. By the way if you’re wondering what Christian Laettner is up to nowadays click here. LOL!!

In the second sweet 16 matchup the Kentucky Wildcats beat the UMASS Minutemen by the score of 87-77, setting up an epic clash with two of college basketballs giants.

In the Elite 8 game the Blue Devils outlasted Kentucky on a buzzer beater from Christian Laettner in one of the most iconic shots/games the country will ever know. Duke 103, Kentucky 102. The Blue Devils were headed back to the Final Four for a 3rd consecutive season.

The West regional was located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Sweet 16 pitted the 1 seed UCLA Bruins against the 12 seed New Mexico St. Lobos and the 3 seed Florida State Seminoles vs the Indiana Hoosiers.

The UCLA Bruins held off the Lobos in essentially a homecourt advantage game for the Lobos.

Indiana Hoosiers beat up the Seminoles making another match up of college basketball titans between the Hoosiers and the Bruins. In this elite 8 matchup the Hoosiers blew out the Bruins by 27 points and looked destined for a big run towards the championship.

The Southeast Regional in Lexington Kentucky had an Elite 8 matchup of two of the biggest rival schools in the history of college in Ohio State and Michigan. Michigan held off the Buckeyes 75-71 and advanced to the Final 4.

In the Midwest region in Kansas City, Missouri, the Cincinnati Bearcats beat down Memphis State by 31 to set up a meeting with the Michigan Wolverines.

In the final 4 the Dukies held off Indiana 81-78 in semi final number 1 and Michigan held off Cincinnati by the score of 76-72.

In the finals the Duke Blue Devils beat down the Wolverines by the score of 71-51 and repeated as national champions.
